Marguerite Bennett lands on a brilliant concept for a “Zero Year” tie-in, but the execution leaves a lot to be desired.

From Daredevil to Batman: Ben Affleck to don Batman’s mantle
The internet in the last few hours has been bursting with it. The news that Ben Affleck is going to be the next Batman alongside Henry Cavill’s Superman. To get a better idea of how this will go, I just rewatched Daredevil.

Review: Batman #14
It seems in this DCnU that small crossovers are going to be rather common place. H’el on Earth, Rise of the Third Army, Throne of Atlantis, etc. Heck, it wasn’t too long back that Court/Night of the Owls finished up. For the Batfamily we currently are getting Death of the Family, with Batman #14 being the latest issue. Be careful of spoilers…
Batman the Dark Knight Returns (part 1)
Batfamily #0s
Okay, so the title is a bit misleading. Not all the Batfamily has had a zero issue so far, and I haven’t picked all the zero issues yet. This will look at five titles though going in “order” of their crime fighting debut: Batman, Nightwing, Batgirl, Red Hood/Outlaws, Batman and Robin. Expect spoilers.
DCnU Timeline v3
Been a while, huh? Some of the latest #0 issues though has given some nice input to the timeline that I just couldn’t ignore it. Due note spoilers (mainly beneath the timeline) and that this has a very Bat-family focus on the new parts.

Review: Batman and Robin 12
The end of the Terminus arc isn’t the pull for me here. To be honest, none of the Terminus stuff was. The real story in my eyes over these last few issues has been the War of the Robins, which by chance seems to end in this issue as well.
Spoiler warning.

DC New 52 – One Sentence Reviews, Part 32
I rated the last four comics I read this week all 4 or over … which was a relief because before that, only one issue had attracted as much as a 4. So it was a hard slog through the start of this batch, with a strong finish at the end.
As most of you will be aware, I’m going to wrap-up my One Sentence Review series with next week’s last batch of #8s. I’m currently a full week behind and the leaderboard concept kind of flies out the window with the first round of cancellations and new titles coming online.
I expect to be blogging/reviewing less, at least for a little while, as I’ll be starting a new job this month and want to focus some energy on creative writing projects. I’ve written the first two scripts for a comic book and want to write at least six issues, and I have a long-neglected novel in the works that I must reacquaint myself with.
I’ll post read/RANT articles when and if the bug bites me, though.
Anyway, as usual, each comic is scored out of five.
Warning, there could be spoilers ahead, although I try to avoid them.
This Week In Comics: 4/18/2012
This week in comics, Wonder Woman #8 takes us to the underworld, the Avengers and the X-Men hit each other some more, and
DC New 52 – One Sentence Reviews, Part 28
Here’s the next batch of reviews, better late than never. A big part of reason for my tardiness, I think, is that it was a pretty sorry bunch and getting through a few of them was a real slog.
As usual, each comic is scored out of five. From here on out, I’m only going to update the leaderboard once a month – at the end (next week for the #7s) – to show which are consistently excellent, which are on the rise, and which are circling the drain (excluding reviewed one-shots and mini-series).
Warning, there could be spoilers ahead, although I try to avoid them.
Review: Batman & Robin #7
The past few issues were a bit boring, at least when they focused on Nobody’s history. This issue though is amazing, start to finish. To such a degree, that I’ll be shocked and apalled if fellow read/RANT member ikeebear rates this lower than a 4 (really, I’d say 4.5) for his upcoming ‘One Sentence Review, Part 27’.
SPOILER WARNING! – seriously
The Krypton Awards
Having read ALL of the New 52 comics to date, I figured I was well-placed to present some awards based on the first six months of the relaunch.
It’s going to be subjective as hell, but what random blog isn’t?
And apologies for the terrible name I’m giving these awards. Haha.
Without further ado …
DC New 52 – One Sentence Reviews, Part 23
Having recovered from the medication-induced frenzy of giving practically everything a four or higher last week, I’ve turned the spotlight on this week’s New 52 comics.
As usual, each comic is scored out of five and at the end I have a cumulative leader board to show which are consistently excellent, which are on the rise, and which are circling the drain (excluding reviewed one-shots and mini-series).
Warning, there could be spoilers ahead (although I try to avoid them).
DC New 52 – One Sentence Reviews, Part 19
Between work, delayed comic deliveries, an understandably demanding five-week-old daughter and my almost three-year-old son thinking my tablet PC (on which I read the comics I don’t collect in hard copy) is exclusively his for the purpose of playing Angry Birds – my New 52 One Sentence Reviews are becoming increasingly late.
I apologise, but am stubbornly committed to continuing my series and I know that, because of the leaderboard, dropping the ball just once means the whole thing is over red rover.
So, better late than never (like Justice League #5, I guess) … here are last week’s reviews.
Each comic is scored out of five and at the end I have a cumulative leaderboard to show which are consistently excellent, which are on the rise, and which are circling the drain.
I have also reviewed the mini-series issues but they aren’t included in the leaderboard.
Warning, there could be spoilers ahead (although I try to avoid them).
Review: Batman #5
I haven’t reviewed Scott Snyder’s Batman in awhile. It’s not because I haven’t been reading, or because it hasn’t been worth discussing. By and large, I don’t review it on a monthly basis because openly gushing month after month would grow embarrassing pretty quickly — and this is a book worth gushing about. Batman #5 continues Snyder’s winning streak, telling a chilling story that pits Batman against a truly worthy foe in a creepy, surreal, issue-long manhunt.
