Avengers vs. X-Men: so far part 2

Two weeks ago I borrowed ikeebear’s “One Sentence Review” format to catch up on all the Avengers vs. X-Men titles.  To cover the last two weeks of AvX, I’ll be working a bit more like Cal’s “This Week in Comics“.  So short paragraphs, though I’ll still order them top to bottom with a ranking out of 5.  Warning, there may be a few small spoilers.

Avengers Academy #29
The mutants have the Jean Grey school, the Avengers have their Avengers Academy and at least looking at this issue (yes, its my first A. Academy I’ve read), it seems it would almost be as fun and entertaining to read as Wolverine and the X-Men.  To get more on track though, the younger members of Genosha (and a few others like Shaw) get dragged to the Avengers Academy.  While its clear they are more or less prisoners, they end up at Hercule’s suggestion doing “Avengers versus X-Men… on the athletic fields.”  Granted to say, this ends up a rather fun issue tied into a cross over event generally full of all out fighting and possible end of the world destruction right on the brink. – 4.5

X-Men Legacy #266
What are the Avengers thinking?  Okay, back track a bit here.  We start the issue with a staff meeting of the Jean Grey school and catch a few X-Men going off to join Cyclops.  It was an open thing to allow, and most of the staff decided to stay to try and keep the students out of it.  They may have done a decent job if the Falcon didn’t show up with She-Hulk and Moon Knight in tow to “ask” the remaining staff to stay on the grounds.  Granted to say, it comes off as a threat, and a lot of people (even those who seemed at issue’s start to not want to take Cyclops’ side) didn’t take well to it.  In terms of this issue, I’m definately viewing the Avengers in the wrong with how they went about things. – 4.5

Wolverine and the X-Men #10
Interestingly, this starts with a (luckily very) quick recap of the attack on Genosha – probably for those who are only reading this one AvX title.  I’m a little clost on when this title takes place, but I’d guess before Legacy #266, and halfway through AvX Round 3.  Anyways, Logan is talking to Kitty about how it felt to go into battle with Genosha when of all people, Cyclops appears.  I’m sure you can guess what happens for a moment before they finally get to talking.  The reaction at their talk by the students is great, we get some good insight into both Scott and Logan, and beyond that we even get some character development for some of the Wolverine/X-Men characters.  Well worth the read and with some interesting paneling. – 3.5

Avengers vs. X-Men Round 3
We start off with Wolverine waking up having Spiderman tell him he was out for the past hour as all the flesh Hope burnt off grew back… And luckily having a new set of clothes for the man.  Outside, we see Cyclops’ X-Men having surrendered while Captain America and Iron Man argue what to do with them.  A rather neat faint is pulled off by Cyclops in this moment allowing them to escape and a race to find Hope begins.  While I found that to be a neat move, what comes off surprising to me is what ends up happening between Captain America and Wolverine at the end. – 3.0

The New Avengers #26
Master Yu Ti invites a very interesting person to help prepare for the upcoming Phoenix.  After that, we continue on with the story started in the last issue: Master Yu Ti training the red haired woman who looks a bit like Hope.  We see her training, we see Master Yu Ti’s new guest get to work.  While its a good read and holds some interesting things to it, it doesn’t hold up as well as last issue. – 3.0

About xxadverbxx

I'm a fan of comics. I use to love DC, but events pretty much starting with the New 52 had pushed me off of them for years. Lately though titles like Gotham Academy and We Are Robin have brought me back to them. I'm much more still a Marvel fan though at this moment who I moved to since New 52 slowly kept pushing me away from DC. Often a fan of X-Men titles while I've really been loving Spider-Gwen series. Film wise I'm upset at DC though I really really want them to do good. At least their TV series are mostly enjoyable (though Arrow has dipped in quality), while I'm a huge fan of the Marvel films. Also, I still really hate Dan Didio and still view him as at least most of what has been going wrong with DC comic wise lately.
