The Gotham Chronicles v2.31

October 13, 2011

Wow, I am speechless.

Still reading? Sorry I was trying to digest The Penguin: Pain & Prejudice Part 1.

Do you remember the movie Big when Josh Baskin is brainstorming about the faux-transformer that went from building to robot?  He went on to complain how utterly useless it was, I had similar views on the Penguin.  For a supervillian he always came off as pathetic.  How can anyone fear a little fat and slow-moving bitter man? Well I will tell you, read Gregg Hurwitz tale on the Birdman, he is more than a late in life Marlon Brando.

Review: The Shade #1

October 12, 2011

The Shade #1, cover by Tony Harris

Starman.  Even after everything else Robinson has done, even after the flat-out embarrassment of Cry for Justice, Starman has endured as a shining example of many of the best things serialized superhero comics can offer.  Jack Knight remains a memorable creation, and the book Robinson built around him stands up well, even to this day.  But, for whatever reason, it’s a feat Robinson has never been able to repeat.  With The Shade, a 12-issue mini-series  launching today, Robinson returns to Opal City and to the morally ambiguous former villain he popularized.

The Gotham Chronicles v1.2

October 11, 2011

Detective #1
While in the whole of it all I consider Detective Comics the greatest comic book conceptualized to date, past and current, this particular issue also set forth to reach a benchmark quality by which comics are judged perfect in my opinion. As a writer and artist for the debut Tony Daniel was able to not only write a great story, but also visualize for us the image he envisioned for his dialogue and storyboard.

The Gotham Chronicles Issue #0

October 11, 2011

So here it is, the Gotham Round-Up for the relaunch and beyond.  Each cycle it is my intention to do a comprehensive overview of the Bat-sociates across the City of the Darkness.  While it stands right now that the continuity will not directly interlace and each book is a stand alone for now, but the events that hold true in one will hold true across the DCU. So any character directly connected to the City of Gotham will be reviewed each month.

DC New 52 – One Sentence Reviews, Part 5

October 9, 2011

It’s time to take on the first round of #2 for the New 52, dishing up one sentence reviews of each ongoing title released this week.  They are scored out of five and at the end I have a cumulative leader board (averaging the scores of each title) to show which are consistently excellent, which are on the rise, and which are circling the drain.

I also review limited series, like the new Huntress and Penguin minis, but these are not included in the leader board.

Be warned, there could be spoilers ahead (although I try to avoid them).
