What’s different: Well, someone butchered the Riddler’s haircut. Seriously, Edward, if you give the girl a tip she won’t do that to your hair!
I keed! I keed!
I’m not going to lie. Some of these Batman articles are going to be a little tough to write. You see, the Batman franchise is one of the only successes DC has going right now. As you can imagine, they aren’t messing with it too much.
The “big” change is that Bruce Wayne is back to being the one and only Batman. ”Big” is in quotes because this is not so much a daring new direction as it is a return to a decades-old status quo. Mind you, I’m not complaining. It was bound to happen sooner or later. And with Dark Knight Rises coming out next year, I figure Dick Grayson had 12 months left as Batman tops.
The other change is the new creative team. Scott Snyder is moving over from Detective and Greg Capullo is coming to DC from the black abyss in which Todd McFarlane had imprisoned him. No doubt with lots of spikes, chains and a very long cloak.
What’s the same: From what I understand, criminals are still a superstitious and cowardly lot, Bruce Wayne is still the goddamn Batman, and Alfred still makes a wicked panini. Seriously, he gets the grill marks just right!
From the solicit:
A series of brutal killings hints at an ancient conspiracy, and Batman learns that Gotham City is deadlier than he knew.
I don’t know. I figure when his parents were gunned down in an alley before his eyes, he got a pretty good idea of just how deadly Gotham City was. But I guess now it’s more deadlier.
Chances for success: Let me put it this way, if Batman fails then DC’s going down the crapper big time.
Final Thoughts: I know I’ve been cracking wise, but I am looking forward to checking out Scott Snyder’s take on Batman.
