I came into JMS’ new take on Wonder Woman with reservations. The new costume was better than some Diana has worn. But I still preferred the classic look. And the idea that Wonder Woman’s back story had to be retooled in order to make her relevant was somewhat insulting. Despite my concerns, I tried to approach the book with an open mind.

Damn it. I’m late again. I read 27 comics in August, and these were the best.

Welcome to 2085, the year of the rabbit.
Fluorescent Black takes the reader into the hard-hitting dark future of South East Asia where gene-tech has divided humankind into two races: the rich, healthy Superiors and the sick, crazy Inferiors. These two races live in neighboring cities separated by a heavily fortified border.
A superior named Nina is the test model for cutting edge genetic designs. She is a paragon of physical and mental health: her brain and body represent billions of dollars worth of corporate research and development. During a bio-terrorist attack, Nina is kidnapped by a street gang and taken across the border into a ghetto full of man-made splice animals, psychopathic hookers, drug addled freaks, deadly insects, poisonous ecosystems, and abandoned tenements.
When the corporations tighten their dragnet, the gang quickly discovers that this is no ordinary captive… but she may be the key to solving all of their problems.
That’s the basic plot of Fluorescent Black. You’ve probably never heard of it, but it is something you should be aware of.

Wheee! A new fun edition. Oh, and I’m adding something. I’m going to review each comic I get here in its own post, which won’t be up immediately, but probably should be up before Thursday. The link will be there, but the post might not be up when you check. Check back later and it’ll hopefully be there then. Oh, and Superman/Batman Annual #1 is a great comic.

Bummer.
We’re all big Gail Simone fans here at read/RANT. Personally, I viewed the return of Gail’s Birds as the best comic book news I’d heard in years. And yet, somehow I hadn’t gotten around to writing a BoP review since the book’s relaunch.
This week, I was determined to fix that. After the first arc, I was sure this issue would kick off another can’t-miss adventure the way this month’s Secret Six #25 did. But, it didn’t quite work out that way.

The Green Lantern franchise is currently enjoying a nearly unprecedented surge in popularity. So naturally, DC has decided to milk the darn thing for all it’s worth. That means splitting the cast of Green Lantern Corps into two books. Warriors features Guy Gardner as the lead with support from former Corps co-stars Killowog and Arisia. Former GLC scribe Peter Tomasi also brings with him a few dangling plot threads he started in the original book.
